Isolation and characterization of fungi and bacteria able to grow on media containing gasoline and diesel fuel

Petroleum products are significant environmental pollutants. This study aimed to isolate microorganisms able grow on media containing gasoline and diesel fuel. Microorganisms were isolated from soils sampled near pumps. Bacterial isolates characterized tested concentrations ranging 10 100 % fuel combinations of both 50/50 25/25/50 (gasoline/ diesel/ Mueller Hinton broth). Results showed that microbial belong the genera Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Micrococcus, Flavobacterium, Actinobacteria, Penicillium, Hansfordia Alternaria. Pseudomonas spp. Bacillus ability up concentration 80 %. However, no growth was noticed above mixtures. Throughout this study, it has been shown using a selective screening method for pollutants can present advantage bioremediation. Keywords: Pollution; gasoline; diesel; microorganisms.
